2007 Belize Trip FAQ
Trip Cost - $1,400 (money for travel day meals additional)
Fundraising ideas and plans are in the works. Those who have turned in Application Forms from will receive this information.
Fundraising & PR –We are looking for parents who would like to be part of our fundraising team. This would allow the staff to concentrate on trip planning.
Sign-up List – There is no sign-up list or intent form, you MUST complete the 3 page application and turn-in a $150 non-refundable deposit.
Priority - It is our desire to take every one who wants to go. Should it be necessary to limit number of people going, if your application is accepted, the date of return helps determines your priority. We may also use factors such as grade, previous trip experience and skills select our mission team.
Trip Tip – No special clothing is required however Belize days are hot (90+) and humid so bargain hunters may want to look for “desert” wear on sale during the winter. Hats are a good idea.
Staff Ratio – We maintain a 3 to 1 student to staff ratio.
Chaperones – We do not have chaperones we have adult staff. Supervision and chaperoning is just one of their duties. Adult staff is carefully chosen to match job skills we must cover. The ideal candidate works well will students, can built a house, fix a bus, wire a building, fix a broken leg, preach a sermon, speak Spanish, produce a financial statement…. Ok you get the idea… Adults interested in joining the staff should speak to Pastor Jason or Brian Show and must complete a staff application by November 1.
Safety – Team members have gone where you will go, slept where you will sleep, eaten what you will eat and done what you will be assigned to do. Nothing is without risks and Belize is a 3rd world country but it is a very orderly society. We have had no incidents and have strict rules (rule of 3’s, adult accompanies after dark) to insure reasonable safety.
Lodging and Meals - We stay at La Loma Luz Adventist Hospital run by Mission Projects, Inc. They have a complete kitchen and an excellent staff that can make anyone enjoy rice and beans. They provide mattress and linens.
Activities – Educational & Fun is our goal. We have a 2/3 day trip where local guides will take us through Mayan caves on inner tubes. Then near the end we will visit an island for snorkeling among the reefs, fish and special marine animals.
Projects – VBS, School bathroom replacement and finishing touches on our church in the Bullet Tree Falls area. Stair replacement, support beam repair and playground equipment assembly at Buena Vista school, with medical treatment and education, church addition and personal evangelism throughout the village. Plus sports camp, soccer evangelism and anything we can find to paint anywhere! Not all projects work out so we plan for more than we can do.
