Lord's Lunch
Lord's Lunch is a community service program sponsored by Spencerville Youth Ministry. The first time we did it was during the 30hr Famine. We prepared bagged lunches from donated food and took it out Sabbath morning to hungry people who were waiting for work at Casa of Maryland and other day laborer sites. We were so hungry from fasting that we wanted to eat the food ourselves!
Since then Lord's Lunch has become a regular part of Spencerville Youth Ministry. We meet twice a month and prepare bag lunches on Friday night and then drive them downtown Sabbath morning. We meet at 6 pm on Friday to prepare the food and leave the church at 8:30 Sabbath morning to distribute it. We return in time for the end of Sabbath School and second service.
The people we give food to are so grateful and often request literature and Bibles. We need more Spanish and French speakers and Bible and literature in these languages, but we get along just fine with a smile and kind word in English so don't worry if you don't parlez francais or habla espanol.
If you would like to be a part of this ministry by participating in food prep and distribution or by soliciting and picking up for please let Pastor Jason or Daina Davidson know. We do have a sign up sheet at the church or we can add your name if you email or call to the church.
Lord's Lunch happens every other week...usually the first and third of each month. |
